More than 1,000 motorcyclists gather for charity ride
Eddie MitchellMore than 1,000 motorcyclists have descended on a Surrey town for a global motorcycle charity event.
The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride sees bikers dress in dapper attire to ride vintage and modern classic motorcycles to raise money and awareness for men's mental health.
Started 15 years ago in Sydney, Australia, it has grown in popularity, taking place in more than 100 countries on the same day, with the Guildford gathering one of the largest in the world, according to organisers.
Guildford ride organiser Nigel Farnfield told Radio Surrey he "doesn't even have a bike" but got involved during the Covid pandemic.
Eddie MitchellHe said: "Guildford Borough Council didn't want hundreds of motorcyclists in the High Street, so everyone started from my pub [in Sutton Green] - social distancing of course.
"The ride allows us as men to talk about issues surrounding mental health, they can be more difficult conversations to have... it is ok to say you aren't ok."
BBC/Morgan WebbNigel Gower, who helps to organise the event in Guildford, said: "This event is by far the biggest in the UK.
"The event will be controlled chaos, full of custom and vintage motorbikes."
While it is called The Gentleman's Ride, organisers said women also take part, as well as lots of dogs.
Celebrities including Joe Wicks and Charley Boorman were due to take part on Sunday morning.
