A12 road closure paused for football match

Overnight road closures on a busy stretch of the A12 are set to be paused for one night for a football match.

Ipswich Town host Premier League champions Arsenal in the Carabao Cup next Tuesday at 20:00 BST.

National Highways started work on Monday to repair Birchwood bridge which crosses the A12, after it was hit by a vehicle. The work is set to run for three weeks, with a section of the road closed southbound between 21:00 and 05:00.

Simon Amor, head of scheme delivery at National Highways, said: "We are aware that there will be a large amount of travelling public to the match."

The full southbound closure on the A12 is between junction 33 at the Copdock Interchange and junction 29 for the Ardleigh Crown Interchange.

Amor said the works were "progressing well" and would resume after the match on the Wednesday night.

The overall repair is predicted to cost £300,000.
