Hairy Biker's belongings sold for £19k

An eclectic collection of items that belonged to the Hairy Biker Dave Myers have been sold for about £19,000 at an auction.

Myers, who died aged 66 from cancer in 2024, was most famed for travelling the world as one half of the cooking double act alongside friend Si King.

Of just over 300 items, about a third remained unsold at Newbury's Special Auction Services, including leather shoes that he wore during his appearances on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.

Myers' widow, Liliana, said the couple had "collected so much" together, having met in 2005 and married six years later.

A 19th Century Meissen figurine of a cherub sold for £1,800 and a wooden rocking horse sold for £650.

Before Myers, from Barrow in Cumbria found fame, he had lived a varied life.

He studied fine art before he worked as a make-up artist for 23 years, eventually meeting King on the set of a TV adaptation of Catherine Cookson's The Gambling Man.

Liliana said ahead of the auction that she hoped that the items "will be loved and cherished and that Dave's memory will put a smile on somebody's face".

Eight novelty bottle openers were sold for £200. Two promotional posters for Cinderella at the Hexagon in Reading, in which he starred over Christmas and New Year 2014, sold for £20.

A signed SpongeBob SquarePants electric guitar from the London International Music Show in 2018 collected £400.

Myers has previously been remembered in three annual Dave Day events, which saw thousands of motorbike enthusiasts travel to Barrow, Cumbria, from across the country, with more than £250,000 raised for charity.
