Apology as water supply disrupted in several towns

An apology has been issued as residents in several towns continue to experience disruption to their water supply.

South West Water said its engineers were working to restore supply in Buckfastleigh, Paignton, Kingsbridge and Totnes in Devon after issues were reported due to air pockets in the network.

A number of people said they had experienced problems since Thursday evening, which had been resolved by Friday night, before their water supply dropped out again on Saturday.

South West Water said it was sorry for any inconvenience caused and added bottled water stations at Meadowbank Car Park in Dartington and the Cattle Market car park in Kingsbridge would be open until 22:00 BST.

On Friday, South West Water said customers in Buckfastleigh were experiencing a loss of supply or low pressure after "issues with equipment" at one of its treatment works.

The company said air pockets then formed in the network while resolving the issue - which led to supply being impacted again.

"Our teams are working around the clock to remove these and return service to normal as quickly as possible," a South West Water spokesperson said.

"We apologise for the disruption and thank customers for their continued patience and understanding," they added.

South West Water said bottled water would be delivered to its most vulnerable customers.
