A12 shut in both directions near Colchester

The A12 is closed in both directions in north-east Essex after an accident involving a lorry and a car.

The closure is in place between junction 28 (Colchester United football stadium) and junction 26 (Stanway/Tollgate). National Highways said an air ambulance had been sent to the scene.

The roads agency posted on social media at 11:34 BST to say there had been delays of up to an hour on the dual carriageway. It is also causing heavy congestion in the Colchester area.

Motorists have been experiencing severe delays between junction 25 (Marks Tey) and junction 29 (Langham/Ardleigh).

The closure has been extended to allow trapped traffic to be turned around.
