A teenager fatally shot a 14-year-old boy in a stairwell during a chase, a court has heard.

Eghosa Ogbebor was shot in Woolwich, south-east London, on the afternoon of 2 April. Paramedics treated him at the scene but he died shortly afterwards.

A 16-year-old boy from Romford in east London is alleged to have shot Ogbebor in the chest. Ogbebor was also armed, the Old Bailey heard.

Appearing via video-link from HMP Feltham, the teenager was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance in July. A six-week trial has been scheduled for January.

Prosecuting, William Emlyn Jones KC said: "It was there at the top of the stairwell that the defendant aimed and fired at the victim, shooting him once in the chest, causing an injury from which he died."

The Metropolitan Police has said its investigation remains ongoing.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the days after the shooting and charged on 9 April.

Another 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder on 10 April and has since been bailed.

Officers also arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in Woolwich on suspicion of murder, and a 46-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three were released on bail.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man who were arrested on 3 April in connection with the attack have also been bailed.
