Fire crews are tackling a blaze at a recycling facility and landfill site.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said 12 pumps were deployed at about 02:30 BST to Fowles Skip Hire, on Hythe End Road, Wraysbury, Berkshire, which is near Staines in Surrey.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which provided 10 pumps, said it was "a significant incident" and crews were "likely to be deployed for a considerable time".

Resident Don Gregory said the flames were "higher than the surrounding trees".

Gregory added another resident had heard a "huge explosion" at about 03:00.

He noticed no water pressure at 07:00 and went to the site after his daughter had reported the fire.

He said the fire service was just containing the fire from spreading.

"It was too deep in wood pile to extinguish," he said.

Crews from London Fire Brigade and Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service had also responded.

Residents are advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the smoke.
