Popular ice cream shop pays to divert footpath

An ice cream producer will pay to have a footpath diverted because the number of visitors was disturbing neighbours, a council heard.

A report to Sheffield City Council said Our Cow Molly in Dungworth saw a surge in popularity during the Covid pandemic, with owners opening an additional route away from neighbouring homes off Cliffe Hill.

The planning and highways committee heard the alternative footpath had proved popular but the entrance was extremely muddy because of the frequent herding of cattle to and from the field.

The report said a new public path would be constructed from crushed stone, away from the cattle entrance, with the owners footing the bill.

It said: "On numerous occasions walkers would linger around the cottages, even stopping to sit on a garden bench owned by one of the residents, to consume ice cream.

"To help the residents, the dairy owner (the applicant for this diversion) provided an additional permissive route to encourage walkers away from the two cottages.

"This has proved a popular alternative, particularly during the summer.

"Following discussions with the dairy owner it was agreed that to alleviate this issue the new public path would be constructed from crushed stone and moved away from the cattle entrance/exit."
