James Bond producer's stalker given hospital order
PA MediaA man who stalked former James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli for a decade, forcing her to sell her family home, has been given an indefinite hospital order.
Daniel Wilson, 37, of Lambeth, south London, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court after previously admitting stalking involving serious alarm or distress and two breaches of a restraining order.
The court heard he bombarded her with messages which "ranged from strange to sexual to threatening" and had broken into her home in 2016.
In a victim impact statement, Broccoli said she was "in constant fear for my personal safety, always on edge and looking over my shoulder", and that only her closest friends now know where she lives.
The court heard Wilson's "enduring fixation" began after his friendship with Broccoli's son, who attended the same sixth form college, ended in 2009 and he believed she owed him money for a bronze bust of her father, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli.
Prosecutor Arabella MacDonald told the court the defendant carried out "a rather relentless and disturbing campaign with hundreds of messages over WhatsApp and text and email – and voicemail using a number of different telephone numbers".
On Valentine's Day last year, Wilson left voicemails repeatedly saying "I've got murder on my mind", breaching a restraining order imposed in 2017.
The court was told Wilson had broken into Broccoli's home in 2016 and caused "a large amount of damage", with two of her friends having to "barricade themselves in a bedroom" until police arrived.
Broccoli was not there at the time.
'Psychological distress'
Wilson admitted stalking involving serious alarm or distress between 1 April 2022 and 14 February 2025, as well as two charges of breaching the ban on contacting Broccoli which was first imposed in 2017.
He also admitted affray and criminal damage after using a hammer to smash car and hospital windows at Lambeth Hospital in December 2023, causing £8,837 of damage.
Psychiatric experts disagreed over whether Wilson has schizoaffective disorder or bipolar affective disorder, but agreed the treatment is the same. His condition had been worsened by crystal meth and cannabis use, the court heard.
Giving evidence, Dr Eleanor Hind said he posed different risks to the public.
"The first would be the stalking behaviour, causing psychological distress to victims and risk of physical violence.
"The second would be violence – he has engaged in physical violence on several occasions, including to family members, staff, and also threats to members of the public," she said.
Judge Christopher Hehir imposed an indefinite Section 37 hospital order with a Section 41 restriction, meaning he can only be discharged with official approval.
Wilson interrupted the judge's sentencing remarks with delusional claims about a bronze sculpture, prompting the judge to cut his video link from Wandsworth Prison.
Broccoli, 66, produced nine Bond films with her half-brother Michael G Wilson before it was announced in February that Amazon MGM Studios had gained creative control.
