Four boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a disused building caught fire.

The roof of the property, in Maplin Way, Shoeburyness, collapsed during the blaze at about 19:00 BST on Saturday.

Essex Police said nobody was injured, but the building sustained "significant damage".

The boys, aged between 12 and 14, were released under investigation after being questioned by officers.

Det Insp Steve Franklin said: "I know this incident was widely witnessed and I want our community to know that it is being taken extremely seriously."

Firefighters have been working to establish the cause of the incident.
