Bridge to be shut for six weeks for repairs
Getty ImagesA bridge in Peterborough is to be closed for essential repairs, the city council has said.
The bridge between Stanground and Farcet will be shut from 27 July to allow for the replacement of expansion joints – gaps between bridge sections that allow for movement caused by temperature changes and heavy traffic.
The work on Peterborough Road is expected to take about six weeks.
Diversions will be in place for both pedestrians and motorists.
Angus Ellis, the council's cabinet member for transport, said: "We understand the closure will be disruptive for some people, so we have timed the work during the school holidays to minimise the impact."
