Luton Big Weekend park gets licence for more events
PA MediaA council has approved a licence for an annual three-day entertainment event at a venue that previously hosted Radio 1's Big Weekend.
Luton Borough Council itself applied for a licence to hold events at Stockwood Park no more than once a year, with live music and alcohol sales.
In 2024, Raye, Coldplay and Chase & Status headlined a three-day event organised by BBC Radio 1 and Festival Republic.
The authority said the event was attended by more than 100,000 people and generated £6.7m for the town's economy.
A licensing panel report said future events could include live and recorded music, film screenings and dance performances, as well as alcohol sales.
The event would be held in a fenced-off area of the park, with the stage near Farley Hill but facing away from nearby homes.
A local resident who lives near the park raised concerns of crime and public disorder, but the council said it would work with police and security companies to deter incidents.
Attendance would be monitored, amplified music would end by 22:30 BST and no films rated 18 or adult entertainment would be allowed.
On Saturday the Kaiser Chiefs will headline an event at the park as part of celebrations for Luton's 150th anniversary of becoming a borough.
