Liverpool Pride back for 2026 with huge festival programme
BBCOrganisers of Liverpool Pride have revealed "a significantly expanded" programme for this year's event a year after its future looked in jeopardy.
A city-wide programme designed to attract visitors from across the country has been promised for the event which takes place on 24-25 July.
Last year's event was cancelled in June citing "significant financial and organisational challenges", but it took place a month later after Sahir House, the city's oldest LGBTQ+ charity 'stepped up' to run the event.
Mark Christopherson, from Sahir, said: "Following last year's challenges, we've worked hard to rebuild something bigger, more inclusive and more ambitious.
James Doherty, from co-organisers LCR Pride Foundation, added: "By bringing together the best of the region's organisations and voices, we are building a Pride that doesn't just look past yesterday's hurdles, but actively builds a stronger, more united tomorrow."
The weekend begins with a major opening party at Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena on 24 July, featuring Sugababes, Beth Ditto, Bimini, Tia Kofi, House Gospel Choir and Horse Meat Disco amongst the line up, alongside dozens of leading Liverpool LGBTQ+ Community performers, who will be announced during Pride month in June.
Proceeds from the official opening party will support the work of Sahir House for the LGBTQ+ community, while also contributing to Liverpool's Pride Saturday programme.
Organisers say there will be more to the weekend than the Pride March with activities taking place across the city centre, including community programming, nightlife, cultural events and grassroots performances.
In addition, Liverpool's Pride Expo will be a networking opportunity for businesses, creatives and community organisations.
To support the expanded programme, dedicated transport will operate across the Pride Quarter, making it easier than ever for visitors to explore venues, including The Lisbon, OMG, Superstar Boudoir, Heaven, The Masquerade and GBar.
