Aberdeen private school to cut 10 'extremely valuable' teachers
BBCA private school in Aberdeen has announced it is cutting 10 "extremely valuable" teaching jobs.
Albyn School - which has about 600 pupils - launched a consultation in February.
The school said the independent school sector was facing a "rapidly changing educational and financial environment".
Albyn said in statement to BBC Scotland News that 10 teachers would be lost at the end of this term.
The UK government introduced VAT on private school fees in January 2025.
Average private school fees were 22% higher that month than in January 2024, according to the Independent Schools Council.
There are currently about 175 staff employed at Albyn.
At the time of the consultation launch, the school said that up to 9% of posts may be affected.
A new statement said: "The school can confirm that the staff restructuring process announced at the end of February has now concluded.
"We are very sorry to be losing a total of 10 extremely valuable teachers at the end of this term either for reasons of voluntary severance or redundancy.
"The school has greatly valued the contribution of all staff who are leaving and acknowledges the loss of excellent colleagues who have given so much to the school in so many different ways."
Albyn added it wanted to thank the community for its "continued support".
