Glasgow Union Street fire cordon to remain until July
PA MediaA street closure near Glasgow Central Station following a devastating fire will remain in place until July, the city council says
The cordon on Union Street and Gordon Street would remain for safety reasons until work on stabilising a wall adjoining the Central Station Hotel was complete.
A huge blaze broke out in a vape shop on Union Street on 8 March.
It wrecked the historic Union Corner building, leaving dozens of businesses seeking new premises.
Glasgow City Council said an ongoing review could see access to some buildings allowed before July.
Several firms have said the cordon is costing them trade.
The city council established a fire recovery fund in the aftermath of the blaze to help companies affected.
A council spokesperson said: " Until this work is complete, the gable wall remains in a dangerous condition with the structure still at risk of further collapse.
"This means the current safety cordon on Union Street and Gordon Street must remain in place to protect the safety of the public and those working on the site.
"Progress with stabilisation work will be subject to on-going review.
The local authority said it remained in contact with affected businesses.
