Rapist who attacked woman five times jailed

A man has been jailed for 18 years for raping a woman on five separate occasions.

Stephen Degnan, 47, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Monday for the attacks, which police said were committed in the Kirklees area.

Degnan, of no fixed abode, had been found guilty of the offences following a trial in June.

Det Con Isaac Taylor said he hoped the victim could "take some comfort in seeing Degnan sentenced for this appalling offending".

He said: "The survivor in this case has shown real courage in coming forward and supporting both the police and CPS in bringing this prosecution and then through the trial process."
