A46 to remain shut 'for hours' over serious crash

The A46 is shut in Leicestershire on Monday morning due to a serious collision.

National Highways said at about 04:50 BST that the dual carriageway was closed northbound near Leicester, before saying both directions were shut at about 06:35.

The closure is in force on the Leicester Western Bypass between between the M1 at Junction 21a and the A5630 at Anstey.

It said that police investigation works were taking place with the closure expected to remain in place "for several hours".

Leicestershire Police asked drivers to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
