A large group of teenage boys threatened to rape a woman as she walked through Cheltenham town centre, police have said.

The group, who were believed to be aged between 16 and 18, made sexually explicit comments to the woman as they followed her down Winchcombe Street at about 19:50 BST on 28 May.

Officers said although the woman was physically unharmed, she was left "badly shaken" by the comments made by the group of eight to 10 boys who followed her until she turned into Albion Street.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson urged any other women who may have been targeted by the gang to come forward, adding extra officers will now be patrolling the area.

The boys are described as being white, having brown hair, and being about 5ft (1.5m) 8ins (20cm) in height.

They were all wearing tracksuits and some of them were riding bikes, police added.

The force has also appealed to businesses in the area to share any relevant CCTV, and said it wants to hear from any other women who may have been targeted by the group.
