Police have made three more arrests after an officer was shot in Nottingham city centre.

Nottinghamshire Police said the officer was shot in the foot after he approached a man and a woman at a bus stop in Angel Row shortly before 04:50 BST on Sunday. It added the male officer remained in hospital and was continuing his recovery.

The force said a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender. Both remain in custody.

Police added a 21-year-old woman had been detained in London on Tuesday on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has since been released on conditional bail.

Police have now made seven arrests in connection with the incident.

The force said officers stopped a vehicle in the Radford area of Nottingham on Sunday evening and arrested its three occupants - including a 27-year-old woman, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Nottingham Magistrates' Court granted detectives a warrant of further detention on Wednesday, allowing them to continue questioning the suspect, the force said.

It added the vehicle's two other occupants, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on conditional bail.

A 30-year-old man arrested in Bedfordshire during the early hours of Monday was also questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He has since been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his licence, police said.

Det Ch Supt Richard Bull said: "The investigation team continues to work tirelessly to establish exactly what happened before, during and after this appalling incident.

"I would like to thank them, along with colleagues from other police forces, for their continued support and assistance.

"It remains crucial that anyone with information about this incident comes forward and speaks to us.

"The injured officer was carrying out his duty to protect the public and it is truly abhorrent that this has happened to him.

"We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of developments in the investigation."
