A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in the sea, police have said.

Emergency services were called to Blackpool Sands in Strete at about 15:30 BST on Monday, said Devon and Cornwall Police.

The force said a man in his 40s from Surrey was pulled from the water and treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, said police.

HM Coastguard said a helicopter, two rescue teams and two RNLI lifeboats were dispatched to the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
