A woman in her 80s was seriously injured when her mobility scooter was hit by a van at a pedestrian crossing, police said.

The incident happened on Baldock High Street, near Pinnock Lane, at about 16:00 BST on Friday and involved a silver Ford Transit Connect.

Hertfordshire Police said a 40-year-old man from Northampton had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving, driving without insurance and driving while not wearing a seatbelt.

The force has appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to get in touch.
