Olympian's call to raise funds for air ambulance
Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey SussexAn Olympian is urging people across the South East to join a charity event to support Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) after visiting its Redhill airbase.
Run 31 is an annual challenge where participants can either walk or run 31 miles (49km) throughout January.
The funds will go towards supporting KSS deliver emergency services.
Sally Gunnell, who won a gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, said taking part in Run 31 was a "fantastic way to start the year".
"It's brilliant for your fitness and mental wellbeing and every mile helps KSS deliver life-saving care," she added.
Lola Inge, running and challenge manager at KSS, said: "Run 31 is not just about running, it's about community, resilience, and making a real difference."
She added in December 2024 alone, KSS carried out about 240 missions.
KSS said its daily operations cost £57,000 and it responded to more than 3,100 incidents annually across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
