Road closed in town due to burst water main

A burst water main has closed a road in Wisbech.

Cambridgeshire Police was called to Weasenham Lane at 06:05 BST and the road was closed from Elm Low Road to Boleness Road.

A force spokesperson said "some of the carriageway may have collapsed" and that Anglian Water had "isolated the burst and water pressure in the area will hopefully return".

An Anglian Water spokesperson added that its teams were "investigating a leak" and "working to understand the cause and any impact on customers" in the wider area who may be experiencing low water pressure. Police said the road had reopened, but was likely to close again between New Drove and Boleness Road while damage was fixed.

GP surgery North Brink Practice said it had "very little water supply" and would be "operating a telephone consultation service only" until further notice.

It said patients of "critical need" would still be seen face to face.

On Facebook, the surgery said: "We have very little running water and no patient toilets so cannot operate safely for all face to face patients."

"As the situation is changing while investigations are ongoing, the latest information will be published on our Check service as soon as it's available," an Anglian Water spokesperson added.

According to the water company's website, parts of neighbouring west Norfolk, had also experienced "lower pressure than normal".
