Van fire and serious crash causes A14 disruption

Two different sections of the A14 have been shut because of separate serious incidents.

All lanes of the westbound carriageway have been closed between Rothwell and Kelmarsh in Northamptonshire after a van fire led to a large diesel spillage.

Crews were then called to a multi-vehicle collision and fire about 40 miles (64km) away near Bar Hill, Cambridgeshire, at about 18:20 BST. This also affected the westbound carriageway.

National Highways said emergency workers were at the scene of both incidents.

Diversions have been in place for motorists using the Northamptonshire stretch of road while junctions two and three are shut.

In Cambridgeshire, three out of the four lanes were closed between Bar Hill and Girton, where the A14 meets the M11.

The county's fire service said crews dealt with "a well-developed fire" involving two cars and gave first aid to a person.

They left the scene by 20:35, having handed the casualty over to paramedics.
