The steps to Selwicks Bay have been closed due to major damage

An East Yorkshire beach has been closed to the public after "heavy damage" was discovered on steps leading down a cliff edge.

The route leading to Selwicks Bay in Flamborough was shut a month ago due to "wear and tear and the marine environment", East Riding of Yorkshire Council said.

"They [the steps] have been inaccessible for a month now while our contractors can engineer and source a durable bespoke solution," a council spokesperson added.

"We look forward to reopening the steps once they've been fixed."

The long steep pathway normally provides access to the beach which is located near Flamborough Head Lighthouse.
