Young brothers top Three Peaks challenge for mum

Two young boys have completed UK Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for charity, inspired by their mum's battle with Crohn's disease.

Over the course of 72 hours Sylvester, 10, and Frank, 7, from Hampshire, climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon with their dad Bernard Harding and his brother, William Harding-Martin.

Bernard said the group faced "some really tough conditions along the way", dealing with snow, strong winds and very poor visibility near the summit of Ben Nevis.

Following their completion of the challenge, Bernard says he has submitted an application to Guinness World Records.

Bernard said: "The boys wanted to do this for their mum, who lives with Crohn's disease, after seeing first-hand how much strength and resilience it takes every day.

"There were definitely moments where the boys were exhausted and emotional, but they kept going and honestly made us incredibly proud.

"One of the nicest parts of the whole experience was the support they got from strangers on the mountains.

"So many hikers stopped to encourage them, high five them or tell them how amazing they were doing, especially when they were struggling near the end of climbs."

So far they have exceeded their £1,000 target and have raised more than £1,500.

The family documented the challenge, which will air on the family's YouTube channel, called The Brothers Shed.

Sylvester said: "Our mum lives with Crohn's disease and deals with it every day.

"She never gives up and always looks after us.

"So we're doing this for her and other families like ours."
