Staff 'wrestle' firearm from man in failed heist
GoogleA would-be robber left a shop empty-handed after a staff member "wrestled" a suspected firearm from him.
The attempted robbery happened at the Family Shopper Convenience Store in the Shiney Row area of Houghton-le-Spring at about 11:45 GMT on Monday.
Northumbria Police said a man carrying a suspected firearm entered the shop on Mill Terrace, but a staff member managed to "wrestle the weapon" from his hands outside the premises after attempting to lock him inside.
No-one was injured and nothing was reported to have been stolen.
The offender, along with another man who was reportedly outside the shop at the time, is believed to have made off in the direction of South View.
Officers have since recovered the suspected imitation firearm and an investigation is under way, the force said.
