Driver, 72, dies 12 days after crash which killed passenger

A second person has died as a result of a crash in Dumfries and Galloway earlier this month.

Raymond Munro, 72, died in hospital 12 days after the two-vehicle collision on the A714 between Newton Stewart and Wigtown, at Nether Barr.

He was driving a Suzuki S-Cross when it was in collision with a Volkswagon Golf at about 09:35 on 3 June. His passenger, Helen Flannighan, 65, died at the scene.

Munro was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he died on Monday.

The 34-year-old woman who was driving the Golf was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Sgt Lindsey Tait said: "Our thoughts are with Raymond's family and friends. They have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.

"Our thought also remain with Helen's family and friends.

"Inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who saw what happened or can assist with our investigation and has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch."
