Arrests after stabbings in city street

Humberside Police said two men were arrested after they were both stabbed in an altercation on Morpeth Street, Hull

Two men have been arrested following stabbings in a Hull street earlier.

Officers were called to reports of an altercation between two men on Morpeth Street, Hull, shortly before 07:00 BST.

Both were taken to hospital with stab injuries, which police described as "serious".

Humberside Police said both men were arrested when they were discharged from hospital. One of the men, aged 49, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The other, aged 34, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. Both men remain in custody.

Det Insp Helen Collier said they believed the men were known to each other and there was no wider risk to the public.

She added: "We have had officers on the ground conducting house-to-house and CCTV enquiries, as well as obtaining witness statements to determine the full circumstances around the incident."

A road closure has now been lifted, police added.
