Porsche driver 'from motorsport pedigree family'

Motorsport is notoriously competitive and drivers need more than just sporting talent to be a success.

Many fail to make it, with the cost of securing a seat with a team often unaffordable even at entry level.

Will Jenkins, 20, from Stone in Staffordshire, knows about the challenges of racing cars, but this season he has started to make a name for himself in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain 2026.

It is his second season in a Porsche, racing with Leicestershire's Team Parker Racing, and he secured his first win last time out, in round six at Snetterton in Norfolk in May.

Jenkins said: "We've had a great season so far and I'm currently sitting second in the standings and only a few points off of first."

The driver added he was looking forward to continuing that form at Thruxton in Hampshire this coming weekend and hopefully retaking the championship lead.

Jenkins started racing cars in 2020, finishing fifth in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

He has been competitive in every season since then and this year has made big gains.

"I think I've been on the podium at every race so far this season and I think that [is] largely down to the team around me."

He is surrounded by motorsport in his family, with uncle David Jenkins being one of the UK's best truck racers and his dad, James, also being involved in team management.

His other uncle, Mark, owned a team that competed in the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup GB and won the championship.

His grandfather also competed in the first truck race in 1984.

Jenkins said: "I guess you could say motorsport runs in my blood.

"I'm really proud to be from a family which has motorsport pedigree and feel I'm really adding to history."

Team Parker Racing principal, Stuart Parker, came across Jenkins at a young age.

He remembered he was introduced to the driver by his uncle, adding: "We actually buy our race trailers off him."

Parker stated it was the third season Jenkins had been with the team and the second year it had "raced him in this championship".

He added: "All the cars in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB are of the same specification, meaning it's a level playing field for all the drivers.

"It's solely down to the team and the driver to get the setup right."

Jenkins is now preparing to go to a Thruxton Circuit notable for former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill reaching a top speed of 147.25mph when he drove a lap in his Williams FW15C in 57.6 seconds.

It is a record still to be beaten.

Jenkins said while he would not get close to the time, he could still complete a lap in just over a minute.

"Thruxton is the fastest track in the UK and you can imagine in these cars we are getting on with it down the back straight.

"We're lapping at just over a minute and 10 seconds, so it's pretty quick out there. These cars are very physical."
