Hospital delays as site hit by water supply issue

A hospital has been forced to delay some of its appointments because of a water supply issue.

Bosses at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire, said the problem reported on Tuesday morning had affected the site's water for drinking, toilets and hand-washing.

A spokesperson for Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said measures had been put in place, including a water tanker to support the A&E department.

They said activity would be postponed where clinically appropriate, apart from urgent cases like cancer care, and people have been urged to limit visits to patients where possible.

"We are currently managing a water supply issue at Leighton Hospital and have put measures in place to maintain safe patient care," the spokesperson said.

"Non-urgent activity and appointments have been rearranged to help manage the incident, with urgent and cancer care continuing as normal."

The trust said further updates would be shared with patients and visitors once more information was available.
