A 21-year-old man who raped two pregnant women has been jailed for 10 years.

Jack Murray, 21, attacked the first woman in St Andrews in 2023 and repeatedly raped a second woman in the town the following year.

Judge Lord Summers told Murray, who observed proceedings via video link, that he would be supervised for three years following his release from custody.

Murray was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

A trial heard that Murray also threatened the first woman, prevented her from leaving the property where the rape happened and detained her there against her will.

The court was told that Murray, who denied the offences, also engaged in threatening behaviour towards the second woman.

Lord Summers told defence advocate Iain Paterson KC that his client's behaviour was "appalling."

The judge added: "I think he has issues which need to be addressed."

Paterson told the court that Murray still maintained the position he had at trial.

He added: "There is some acknowledgement of bad behaviour on the part of the accused towards the complainers.

"However, there is no acceptance of sexual offending."

Paterson told the court that his client met the legal definition of being a child at the time of the offences.

Sentencing Murray, the judge told him: "I accept that you were young and immature at the time of these offences."
