Girl, 5, dies in hospital after two-car crash
BBCA five-year-old girl critically injured in a two-car crash in which three other people were seriously hurt has died.
The crash happened on the A59 at Gisburn, close to the junction with Strawberry Fields, between a Skoda Karoq and a Volkswagen Golf R, at about 15:55 BST on Thursday, Lancashire Police said.
The driver of the Skoda, a woman in her 60s, and two passengers – a girl and boy both aged five – suffered severe injuries in the crash - as did the Golf R driver, a man in his 20s.
Police said the girl died in hospital of her injuries on Tuesday.
The force said the two drivers and the other five-year-old male passenger, remain in hospital being treated for their injuries.
Police said the Golf R driver is being treated as a witness in its investigation.
Sgt Laura Kendall said: "I must stress that the investigation into the collision is ongoing, and it is still in its early stages in determining exactly what happened.
"We continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened – who haven't yet contacted us – to please get in touch.
"If you have any information which you think can help us, we want you to contact us."
She urged people to "refrain from speculating about what happened".
"The investigation will determine this and speculative comments around what might have happened can be very distressing for the family of the little girl," she added.
