Asda licence bid lodged for empty Broad Marsh units
LDRSAsda is a step closer to opening an Express store in long-vacant units at one of Nottingham's high-profile developments.
The rebuilt Broad Marsh car park opened in 2021, followed by the new bus station a year later and Central Library in 2023, all within the same block.
Ground-floor retail units facing the newly pedestrianised Carrington Street, which also form part of the complex, had stood empty until a cafe opened in December last year.
The same month, Asda confirmed it was planning to open a store in the remaining space, and now planning documents show it is asking for the premises licence to start on 30 October.
According to the licensing application, it will be an Asda Express convenience store.
Asda has been contacted for comment, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Nottingham City Council previously said an unnamed national retailer was interested in taking over all of the empty units, however these plans never saw the light of day due to "unforeseen delays".
Homes England purchased the Greater Broad Marsh site last year, and the government housing agency is currently in the process of demolishing the old NCP car park and nearby former college buildings in Maid Marian Way.
The structures are expected to have been demolished by the end of November, paving the way for new homes, streets and public spaces.
Homes England launched its search for a developer partner in May and expects to make an appointment in 2027.
