A delivery driver has admitted stealing thousands of pounds worth of weight-loss drug Ozempic from the pharmaceutical wholesaler he worked for.

Peter Daniel, 62, from Croydon, south London, pleaded guilty to stealing more than 30 boxes of the medication from Cencora Alliance Healthcare.

Croydon Magistrates' Court heard Daniel was caught on CCTV after customers complained they were missing deliveries between 17 April and 5 May. Police searched Daniel's home and found 34 boxes of Ozempic worth £4,080 in his fridge.

The court was told he did not steal the drug for "commercial gain" but used it to treat an unspecified eating disorder. He will be sentenced next month.

A'Herne told the court the medication "could be dangerous in the hands of someone that doesn't know how to use it or prescribe it".

Mohammed Bismillah, for Daniel, said the defendant had an "unblemished" record at the company, where he had worked for 23 years.

"He was using the items for his own use, not commercial gain," he added.

Sentencing was adjourned to 28 July at the same court.
