Plans approved for new Domino's at former bank

Domino's is set to open new premises at a Grade II listed building that was formerly home to a bank.

The branch of HSBC, at the corner of Broad Street and Burgess Street in Leominster, and located within the town's conservation area, shut three years ago.

Plans to convert part of the three-storey building, submitted in January, have been approved by Herefordshire Council.

External changes to the building will be "minimised" according to planning documents, but there will be new "louvred extraction" and air vents added to existing side windows.

No changes were proposed to the first or second floors.

A Herefordshire Council environmental health officer recommended conditions to restrict and monitor noise and odour, and warned that failure to then abide by these "could lead to enforcement action".

Some residents raised concerns there were too many "unhealthy" fast food options within the town.

But another voice within the feedback said: "Please listen to the young people in and around Leominster, not the old ones who don't really care about the future of Leominster."

Planning officers ruled the alterations to the building were acceptable, and no evidence had been put forward of "an over-provision" of fast food within Leominster, or of "high levels of obesity, deprivation or health inequalities".

Conditions on the permission restrict its opening hours to 11:00 to 23:00, and deliveries to 08:00 to 18:00.

Leominster Town Council had no objection but said it would like to see the building's upper floors also brought back into use.
