Two more arson arrests over moorland fire
ReutersTwo more people have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out on a Greater Manchester moorland.
The blaze started last Saturday at Dove Stone Reservoir in Greenfield, Saddleworth, and is still burning, with smoke being carried across the region.
Great Manchester Police said a man in his 20s was arrested earlier on suspicion of arson, while a woman was arrested on Thursday on the same suspicion. The woman has been released on bail.
The arrests follow the charging of Shania Care-Slede, 20, of Market Street, Hyde, with aggravated arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and dangerous driving.
She is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 18 August.
'Fire still ongoing'
"This investigation has been progressing at pace. We are nearly a week on and the fire at Dove Stone is still ongoing, and it has had devastating effects on the reservoir," said Det Insp Andrew Day.
He reminded people not to share posts on social media about the incident while the police investigation was ongoing.
"As this incident continues, officers would like to thank all emergency service partners for their support and dedication.
"In particular, our colleagues at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, whose firefighters have spent countless hours tackling the fire in demanding conditions," he said.
Road closures remain in place on Holmfirth Road and Bank Lane. There is no access to Dove Stone Reservoir, and members of the public are being told to avoid the area.
