The driver of a car in East Sussex has been seriously hurt after a tree fell on her car, police have said.

Emergency services were called to White Hart Hill, in Guestling, shortly after 16:00 BST on Saturday.

The driver, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, officers said.

The A259 was closed for several hours in both directions between Hastings and Rye following the incident.

Police, the fire and rescue service, as well as the air ambulance attended the scene.

A Met Office yellow warning of strong winds was in force for much of Saturday, with a number of events disrupted and fallen trees reported.
