Mattresses and rubbish dumped across rural road

Mattresses, broken furniture and black bags of rubbish have been dumped along a quiet rural road leaving a trail of waste stretching across the tarmac and onto the grass verge.

The fly-tipped pile near St Neot in Cornwall includes at least two stained mattresses, plastic containers, loose debris and torn bin bags spilling their contents across the lane, with smaller items scattered for several metres along both sides of the road.

Liskeard Police said the incident had been reported on a route leading into the village and Cornwall Council had been informed.

Officers said the council had told them it had "some positive lines of inquiry" it was investigating after the dumping was discovered.

Police said anyone who had seen, or had footage of, a flat bed type van with netting on the side carrying waste in the area should contact Cornwall Council. The reference number is SR26_008078.

Incidents of fly tipping reported by Cornwall Council increased by 27% from 2023/24 to 2024/25.
