Guernsey and Alderney States meet over tax reforms
BBCThe States of Guernsey has met with representatives in Alderney to discuss tax reforms.
Proposals were revealed by the States earlier this month, which included the introduction of a 3% Goods and Services Tax (GST), the re-introduction of vehicle taxes, and lower income tax bands.
Meetings took place this week between members of both States, as well as with people from the business community, at the Island Hall, to discuss the implications for Alderney.
The States of Alderney described the conversations as "positive" and "constructive", as well as demonstrating the "strong interest" people have to understand the plans.
"The visit gave States members and local businesses the opportunity to hear directly from those developing the proposals," said Jeannie Cameron, chair of Alderney's policy and finance committee.
"It was particularly valuable to hear how the proposals have evolved over the past year in response to comments received from communities and stakeholders across the Bailiwick."
She added: "I would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. The engagement was positive, constructive and demonstrated the strong interest people have in understanding the proposals and their implications for Alderney."
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, from the States of Guernsey, said there were some "excellent conversations that explored both the principles and practicalities" of the plans.
"We're keen to ensure that people across the Bailiwick understand the challenges we face and the measures we're proposing to make our public finances more sustainable and support public services now and in future."
