Moonlight walk raises £280k for hospice service
The Myton HospicesVolunteers raised more than £280,000 for a Warwickshire hospice service by taking part in a moonlight walk through Warwick.
More than 1,750 people came together to support The Myton Hospices by walking 5km and 10km routes through the grounds of Warwick Castle.
The hospice thanked everyone who took part on Friday 17 April - including Harry Potter and Game of Thrones actor David Bradley who opened the event.
The funds were the most raised at any Myton event ever, said the hospice.
The money will go towards continuing to provide specialist care free to people living with life-limiting illnesses.
Natalie Walker, events and campaigns manager at Myton, said the service was grateful.
She said: "The support shown by participants, volunteers and partners helps ensure we can continue to be there for people and families who need our care, now and in the future."
It costs the hospice £15m each year to provide its services free of charge. As a charity, less than 20% of its funding comes from the NHS and it must raise more than £12m this year.
Walker added: "Every pound raised helps sustain our specialist hospice services across Coventry and Warwickshire, enabling us to support people at a time when they need us most."
