More details revealed about new 1,200 home estate
Bloor HomesA developer has put forward plans to build a primary school as part of a major new housing scheme.
Bloor Homes is seeking outline permission from East Suffolk Council for the development of a 1,200-home estate on about 100 hectares east of Ipswich, near Kesgrave.
The company said a third of the homes would be affordable, and other features included dedicated bus lanes and road improvements.
A statement on behalf of Bloor Homes said the scheme, which would be delivered in phases, was "intended to provide a comprehensive and sustainable new neighbourhood".
The developer said 2,500sqm of commercial space would also be built.
Several transport improvements are also being proposed, including a new junction and roundabout off Foxhall Road and a new pedestrian and cycle route off Dobbs Lane.
It is thought the 11-year construction period could generate 179 local jobs in Ipswich and East Suffolk, with a further 253 once the development was complete.
Bloor HomesPrevious plans for 300 homes and land for a primary school were refused in 2016 by the former Suffolk Coastal District Council, over concerns they would harm the character of the area and place additional pressure on services.
Bloor Homes said it had worked hard with local councils, politicians and residents since January last year to address concerns.
Bloor HomesPeople writing on social media have questioned why the homes are being proposed close to the Foxhall Road Recycling Centre.
Others raised concerns for the remains of the former RAF Martlesham Heath runway that sit within the site boundary.
Bloor Homes said it would retain 50% of the site as green land.
A public consultation on the development is due to end on Wednesday, with a decision expected by 7 January.
