BBCPart of the A14 remains shut after a crashinvolving a lorry and a car that left one person with serious injuries.
Suffolk Police was called to reports of a collision on the A14 between junction 38 for Newmarket and 39 for Kentford at 01:20 GMT.
One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries, the force added.
Both carriageways were closed but one lane of the westbound carriageway has since reopened. Police said they left the scene at 15:25 after conducting inquiries, but National Highways workers were still repairing the road.
The roads agency said it expected the A14 to be fully reopened by 23:15.
It has advised drivers to take a diversion by leaving the A14 at junction 38 for Waterhall, continuing on the A11 to Five Ways roundabout and taking the fourth exit.
They should then follow the A1101 through Icklingham, Lackford, Flempton and Hengrave to the roundabouts at Fornham All Saints.
At the roundabout they should take the third exit to B1106 to Westley and rejoin the A14 eastbound at junction 42 for Westley.
Motorists have been urged to allow extra time for their journeys.
Any witnesses or motorists who have dashcam footage of the incident have been asked to contact police.
