RNLI Lerwick rescued a damaged yacht and a trapped dog walker in the space of 24 hours.

The lifeboat was launched at 22:19 on Tuesday to help a 14-metre yacht with four people onboard.

The Norwegian-registered vessel, which was 25 miles east of Bressay, had a damaged sail and an overheating engine.

A RNLI spokesperson said the crew reached the vessel around 23:30 and escorted it to Lerwick harbour.

On Wednesday evening the lifeboat rescued a stranded dog walker, on the east side of the Knab.

They had become trapped by steep banks after chasing their pet.

The owner and the dog were taken aboard a small inflatable and returned to dry land.

Stephen Manson, of the RNLI, said he was grateful that both incidents "concluded with positive outcomes".
