Man arrested after nursery put into lockdown
GoogleA man has been arrested after police said they received reports of someone taking knives into a building, forcing a nursery to go into lockdown.
West Midlands Police said they responded to calls about a man with knives in Roseberry Avenue, Coventry, at about 10:40 BST on Thursday.
The force said he went in a nearby building and a man was arrested shortly afterwards, on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.
Bell Green Nursery, part of the Bright Kids chain, based on the road, said a man had locked himself in a room in the Bell Green Hub, but not the nursery itself, leading to the whole building carrying out safety procedures.
"At no point did the individual enter the nursery or have any contact with any of the children, staff, or families within our setting," a spokesperson said.
West Midlands Police added: "No-one was injured and the knives were recovered. There was no immediate threat to any other member of the public."
The force said the man they arrested was taken to hospital for assessment and would be questioned in due course.
