Walkers rescued from Kinder Scout in early hours

Mountain rescuers came to the aid of two walkers lost in poor visibility and bad weather in the Peak District.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team said police received a broken call for help from someone saying they were lost on Kinder Scout, Derbyshire, at 02:30 BST on Sunday. The call cut off before any information could be passed on, other than that they had been near "Kinder Falls".

Volunteers were deployed up the main escape routes from the western side of Kinder, however nothing was found on the way up.

The rescue team said it continued searching along the tops - in "very wet and windy" conditions - and the walkers were located on the edge path.

The pair identified themselves as the missing walkers - and were warmed up and walked back down to their vehicles, the team said.

It added 25 volunteers were involved in the response, which lasted four hours in total.
