A former Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for lying after he was twice caught speeding.

Benjamin Whitcher, 32, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to two counts of perverting the course of justice.

He will also be disqualified from driving for six months after serving his prison sentence.

Whitcher, of Basingstoke in Hampshire, resigned from the Metropolitan Police ahead of a misconduct hearing in November 2025, which found he would have been dismissed if he had still been serving, Surrey Police said.

Police explained Whitcher had twice been caught on camera speeding on the M3 in Sunbury in Surrey in April 2021.

When contacted, he tried to claim he was not the driver on both occasions, Surrey Police added.
