Tributes after firefighter, 35, dies from cancer

Shropshire firefighters have paid tribute to one of their colleagues who has died, remembering him as an "amazing person".

They had raised more than £30,000 to support Tyler Davies and his family, and they thanked everyone who had supported him.

The watch manager at Tweedale Fire Station, Richard Thornton, said: "Tyler was a fantastic firefighter, a respected member of our crew and a much-loved friend who will be incredibly missed."

He said the firefighters would "always be there" for his family.

Davies, 35, had been diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma, with colleagues setting out to raise money to pay for advanced treatment and to make his home more comfortable.

In April they raised £5,000 with a 24-hour relay walk up and down the Wrekin, with some of those taking part wearing full firefighters clothing and breathing apparatus.

In a statement, Tweedale Fire Station said: "Tyler was much more than a firefighter. He was a friend, a teammate, and a valued member of the Tweedale family."

It said he was an "amazing person to be around" and added: "Tyler gave so much of himself to help others, often making sacrifices that many people never see."

A display in his memory has been set up at the station and it will be available for people to visit on Wednesday evening between 18:30 and 21:00 BST.
