Simon Cowell surprises Cardiff school choir

A school choir was left speechless after Simon Cowell emerged triumphant from under a red sheet draped over what they believed was a new statue honouring an influential figure in the music industry.

Seventy boys from Glantaf school in Cardiff were told they would be singing at the unveiling of the new statue.

Instead, they were stunned by the big reveal, in which Britain's Got Talent lead judge surprised them with the news that they would be auditioning on the ITV show.

Saturday night's episode showed the boys' choir leader - and former X Factor contestant - Lloyd Macey, who nominated the boys for the audition.

After a moment of bewilderment, Cowell shouted "surprise" and proceeded to high-five the boys.

"I am not a statue," he said, to which one of the boys responded he was "much better than a statue."

The choir got a standing ovation and four yeses from the judges after performing Never Enough from The Greatest Showman.

"You should be proud of what you've done, I actually got quite emotional," Cowell told the boys following their performance.

"This was just brilliant, this is what a great choir is all about - having fun, great song choices, great leader, seriously," he said.

Fellow judge Amanda Holden said the boys "did Wales proud and I can't wait to see what comes next", while Alesha Dixon called Lloyd Macey a "fantastic leader".
