School celebrates ex-pupil's international call-up

A school says it is "bursting with pride" as one of its former pupils has been called up to Scotland's national football team.

Kent-born centre-back Luis Binks has been named in the senior team for the first time in what is Sebastien Pocognoli's first squad in charge.

The Howard School in Rainham said: "From a young boy growing up in Gillingham and walking the corridors of The Howard School, to playing professional football in Canada, Italy, England and Denmark, captaining one of Scandinavia's biggest clubs, and now being selected to represent Scotland at senior international level.

"For our current Howard students, what an example of where talent, courage, hard work and ambition can take you."

The 25-year-old started his career at Tottenham Hotspur's academy before moving to Canada to play for Montreal Impact.

He subsequently played for Bologna and Como in Italy and Coventry City in England before moving to Danish side Brondby, where he was made captain.

"We couldn't be prouder to call him one of our own," his former school said.

"Everyone at The Howard School sends Luis a massive congratulations on this incredible achievement."

As part of the squad, Binks could face Slovenia, North Macedonia and Switzerland in the Nations League.
